Erv Ballou

Stream Channel Protection Manager

Erv Ballou spent a distinguished career at the Idaho Department of Water Resources.

He specialized in the field of stream channel protection and served as the Statewide Coordinator of the Stream Channel Protection program during the last ten years of his career. Erv has a Bachelor of Science degree from Boise State University in Industrial Technology, and participated in dozens of continuing education courses over the years to develop proficiency in the emerging science of river ecosystems. He trained with leading, well-known professionals in the field such as Dr. Don Richmuth and Dr. David Rosgen. Erv visited and made recommendations on hundreds for stream channel alterations over the years, and emphasized cooperative work with state and federal agency personnel to achieve solutions that were realistic yet benefited the environment.

Erv retired as a Master Sergeant in the Idaho Air National Guard.
